Computers do not use many amps. On average, under normal use, a typical desktop PC will use about 150 watts of power. This is not much more than 2 lightbulbsTo calculate amps, we divide that number by 120 (if you live in north america).
150/120 = 1.25 amps.
The components inside your computer will use much more than this though. Your power supply is responsible for the safe and reliable switching, turning down voltage to the small components, and giving them beefy amounts of current (power).
A typical CPU will use 60 or more amps!
Remember that amps is the physical amount of electrons flowing through the wires. CPU wires are small, and run at low voltage, yet still get very very hot
